LECTURES ONGOING DESPITE ASUU STRIKE -OAU MANAGEMENT

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has said that lectures are ongoing on the university campus despite the strike embarked upon by some lecturers. The PUNCH had reported that Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife branch of the Academic Staff Union declared an indefinite strike following the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance to its members on Monday. The lecturers complained that all political and diplomatic means to resolve the imbroglio failed. Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, OAU’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement said efforts are made to ensure that the academic calendar of the university isn’t affected. COVID-19: OVER 4.6M RESIDENTS VACCINATED -FG

The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, on Saturday disclosed that Nigeria has so far vaccinated 4,680,000 million Nigerian residents against COVID-19 . Shuaib disclosed this in Benin during the South-South town hall meeting on COVID-19 vaccination organised by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID in collaboration with the NPHCDA. He said the meeting was to discuss COVID-19 vaccination, address concerns, reach a consensus, and support the on-going efforts by the federal and state governments to ensure citizens are safe and protected against the deadly virus. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has frowned at the disparity in payments of foreign and local workers in parts of the country. He criticised states in Nigeria that employed and paid foreigners five times higher than their Nigerian counterparts. Ngige said this when he received the Chairman, Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr Muheeba Dankaka, and other Federal Commissioners during a courtesy visit on Thursday in Abuja. treatment given to foreigners by some states ahead of their Nigerian counterparts does not encourage national unity and loyalty. The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has said that it regretted that it got rid of then-President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections to vote in the incumbent, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The group expressed disappointment that Buhari has let down millions of Nigerians including members of the All Progressives Congress who trusted in his leadership prior to the poll six years ago.
